“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”
– Plato
Big E was considerably excited that day because I told him we were going for a really fun & exciting music class during breakfast. He kept asking throughout the day what games will he play & whether I can stay in with him or I needed to leave.
One area I struggle to teach Big E is music. Neither me nor Daddy is musically inclined. The most I did was strum & sing along with Bubs using a guitar. I am a serious amateur at it so I shall not embarrass myself by strumming too much. I’ve introduced music in our home environment as naturally as I could. We would sing & dance to silly songs together, watch sing-along videos on DVDs or Youtube, play music in the background while at home or in the car… Daddy brought Big E to the orchestra once which was an eye opener for him.
We have simple, natural musical instruments for Big E & Baby E such as a xylophone, clicker, shaker egg, wooden drums, whistles & a brass bell (our latest addition from Daiso).
I absolutely fell head over heels in love with Teacher Trina’s (or I shall lovely call her Cher Trina) xylophone. Big E loves it to bits. As a warm up before the class started, Cher Trina got all the kids to follow her on hitting the right notes by listening. She’ll play a note on the keyboard & the children will follow her by hitting the right note on the xylophone.
The main theme for today’s lesson: Animals & Endangered Species
Cher Trina & the kids talked about elephants, bears, parrots, turtles & rhinoceros. Followed by a musical story-time from “Woodpecker Wham!” where the kids did sound effects using wooden percussions in 3 counts (Wham! Wham! Wham!) as well as dynamics of forte (loud) & piano (soft) throughout the story.
These energetic kids got to use their vocals to imitate sounds of different animals.
Cher Trina introduced the songs ‘Walking in the Jungle’ & ‘Five Little Bears’ in class today. Big E loved ‘Walking in the Jungle’ so much he kept singing it all the way until bedtime that day!
Baby E had his 10 minutes of fun in class, exploring everything he could lay his little hands on before I whisked him off for some quiet coffee break at Jewel Coffee in the mall.
We are looking forward to the next class where Cher Trina will be introducing the ukelele!

  1. I have a friend also who has music classes for her kids. I am thinking of enrolling my son too… Teacher Trina looks like a great teacher for kids.. Is my son will just be turning 2 years old too young for this?
