Product Review: Dapple – Safe Natural Way to Clean Those Drippy Messes

Turning eco-friendly is an automatic switch turned on once most Mommies discovered they are pregnant.

I remembered studying every chemical ingredient of baby safe cleaning products available in the market so that I can make the most informed choice. The amount of harmful ingredients in many so called ‘organic’ baby cleaning products are alarming!

These are some common ingredients one should avoid when choosing a baby product – parabens, phthalates, bleach, sodium lauryl sulfate.

I first heard of Dapple when I did my brand research and they were one of the better brands that honestly promote a green label.

Why Dapple?

Dapple is designed by two mothers who know exactly what it takes to clean tough baby messes.

They are hypoallergenic for sensitive skin. No harmful chemicals Dapple products do not contain SLS and SLES, formaldehyde,1,4-dioxane, dyes, artificial fragrances and phthalates. The bottles are BPA-Free too.

Why are some commonly used chemicals bad?

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) / Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) / Formaldehyde can cause skin irritations, dryness, irritates the eye, nose, lung throat and formaldehyde is a known human carcinogen.

1, 4-dioxane at low levels of exposure may irritate the eyes and nose. High levels of exposure may cause severe kidney and liver effects.

Chemical compounds used to make dyes could affect humans adversely and harm the environment.

Artificial fragrances are one of the top five allergens known to trigger asthma attacks.

Phthalates promotes algae growth & kills marine life if untreated bath water is discharged into the ocean.

Bisphenol A (BPA) has potential negative effects on brain, behaviour, prostate glands in foetuses, infants, and young children.

We now know more about the harmful effects that we apply on our bodies more so than our previous generations thanks to the wonders of the internet. It took me a while to get familiarisedar with all these common ingredients when I go shopping for organic baby products.

Dear Baby Online Store has kindly sponsored the following Dapple products for review:

1. Bottle & Dish Liquid + Travel Size

Ingredients: Purified water, alkyl polyglucoside (cleaner derived from tree oils and glucose), sodium lauroamphoacetate (cleaner derived from tree oils and amino acid), sodium citrate (water softener derived from citric acid), baking soda, tetrasodium iminodisuccinate (complexing agent), apple/pear fragrance (made from ingredients consistent with the guidelines of the Natural Products Association), benzisothiazolinone (preservative).

What I liked:

Pleasant, mild Apple scent that’s not overwhelming

One pump – wash 4-6 bowls of oily food, eqv to 5-6 milk bottles

Effective, no grime left with just 1 wash, easy to wash off, no odour, no filmy substance eg milk film

Lovely design beside the sink

In fact, I love it so much I use to to wash my dishes as well. Does an amazing job & I figured the kids use our bowls, plates & utensils too!

Comes in travel size as well!

Safely cleans pacifiers, teethers, bottle nipples & little thumbs.

Green technology and plant-based ingredients

Made without parabens, phthalates, SLS, SLES, 1,4-dioxane, and dyes

Ingredients: Water, glycerin (solvent derived from vegetables), decyl glucoside (mild cleanser derived from sugar), malic acid (pH adjuster derived from apples), potassium sorbate (food-grade preservative), sodium benzoate (food-grade preservative).

What I liked:

Comes individually packed to prevent contamination.

Small & travel friendly.

Easily slipped into diaper bags.

I did a tongue test. Meaning I licked the wipes with my own tongue! It is definitely fragrance & taste free! Kinda like water, although I did detect a very faint waft of alcohol when I put it to my nose. That aside, this is a great pacifier or food-grade wipe to consider.

I bring a couple packets along to wipe the kids utensils when we eat out.

A mild cleaner for the nursery or kids’ room. Especially young kids who are constantly picking things off the floor, floor cleanliness is an absolute must!

Did a skin patch test. No stinging, alcohol, drying feeling. Gentle for sensitive skin.

It’s a gentle green alternative to clean the kids’ toys. We recently survived a bout of HFMD & Dapple Toy & Highchair cleaner is a great alternative for me to clean our toys in the house on a regular basis after I’ve thoroughly sanitised my toys.

Between the Toy & Highchair vs Nursery cleaner, I would say just get the former & use it to clean the baby nursery as well.
